Friday Night Lights: Missez Turner's Review

What good is being the one, when you the only one that knows it?

j-cole-friday-night-lights

Earning roughly 4,000 page views per second, Cole’s website, Dreamvillain.net was shut down hours before his latest mixtape, Friday Night Lights even dropped. When he finally did put the link up on his twitter (@JcoleNC), fans had no choice but to patiently wait in line while hosting sites like Mediafire and Megaupload could wrap their heads around what was actually going on (I spent 35 minutes downloading on one of Comcast’s fastest connections).

The mixtape was well worth the wait. With a tracklist 20 songs strong, Friday Night Lights accomplished what only a few artists have managed to accomplish with the last few years—he gave us a mixtape that sounds like it should’ve been an album. Friday Night Lights includes a few “old” but new leaks, a couple new songs, and even a remix to one of my all time J. Cole favorites, “In the Morning,” featuring Young Money’s own, Drizzy Drake. Other guest appearences include Wale on “You got it,” Omen on “Enchanted” and even Erykah Badu’s voice makes a guest appeareance on the, admittedly too deep, “Too Deep for the Intro.”

J. Cole provided the perfect mixtape to hold our attention in an industry notorious for shelving lyrical artists, and pushing back album dates. From the B!nk-produced and Nas inspired  Villematic to the self produced “Blow Up” (which instantly reminded me of Old school Kanye)the album is a consistent effort that I have yet to hear a complaint from.

If this is just the mixtape, I cant wait for the album (knock on wood :-P ).

My favorite Tracks:

Love Me Not (Honorable Mention)

5. Villematic
4. Enchanted
3. Before Im Gone
2. Premeditated Murder
1. Too Deep For the intro

Here's a bonus that didn't make the final cut:
Purple Rain - J. Cole

If you dont have Friday Night Lights already, go here to get it.

Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Baby - Veteran's Day

My favorite road song of 2010. SN Even with Weezy being incarcerated for most of the year, I STILL think he has released the most videos.

enjoy!

J. Cole Ft. Drake - In the Morning

My two favorite men right now :-).

"In the Morning" is actually an older J. Cole track that I still bump till this day. Drizzy hopped on and added his flare (and honestly, I aint mad at all) and Cole went ahead and added a new second verse.

enjoy!

Thee Tom Hardy and Big Remo Freestyle on Toca Tuesdays

Good producers always find good artists. 9th Wonder and his artists Tom Hardy and Big Remo stopped by Toca Tuesdays and dropped a freestyle for Tony Touch. I am LOVING the direction Hip Hop is headed.

Big Sean - Too Fake (Video)

I fux with it the long way:

Big Sean - Too Fake (Ft. Chiddy Bang) from illRoots.com on Vimeo.

Sean Garrett - Feel Love

I'm really feeling this track. It first leaked with Drake, which I loved,  but J. Cole was added to the more recent version, which I loved even more :-) (Im guessing its because Garrett and Cole are both on Roc Nation). Some people like Drake's version better, and some like Cole's better. You be the judge. Download links at the bottom.

Enjoy!

I like this one the best, though. Too bad I couldn't find a DL link ANYWHERE. :-)

Sean Garret ft. J. Cole - Feel Love
Sean Garret ft. Drake - Feel Love

Jamie Foxx Ft. Drake - Fall For Your Type

I remember Drizzy's version leaked a few months back, but it looks like they went ahead and gave the verses to Jamie and added a Drake verse on the end. I prefer it this way.

J. Cole Releases Mixtape Cover

It's about time. According to Cole's twitter, it's currently slated for November 12.
"When I first decided to do a tape I figured I would just put together all the freestyles and songs that leaked, with 1 or 2 unreleased songs. Until it became clear that I don't know how to half-ass. So sorry for the wait, but let this music make it up to you!"

Nicki Minaj 106 and park

I dont usually do too much Nicki, but I felt it would be nice to share this with all of you barbies and whatnot :-)

In other Nicki Minaj News...

Roman Zolanski will meet Slim Shady on Friday, well Pink Friday. According to Rap-Up, the rappers’ will channel their alter egos on the song, “Roman’s Revenge”. Whoa! Hear the song in its entirety on November 22nd.

Sounds interesting.

Interview with J. Cole

We sat down with J. Cole and asked him plenty of questions like: being on tour, being creative, album not done yet, mixtape coming out soon, relationship with Jay-Z, producing on a major level, investing in rapping, scared of taking a vacation and more.

Drake Speaks on Upcoming Projects

Drake stopped by MTV yesterday to discuss the status of his upcoming Mixtape. I'm kinda anxious to hear Drizzy rapping on his own tracks again. Hopefully, we can get a few more Boi-1da beats this go around. he also speaks on a possible collaboration with Jay-Z.

“I been rapping a lot lately. “Me and 40 (Noah Shebib, his producer) have been doing some great rap music, so I sort of took a hiatus on the R&B for a second. It’s cool to do R&B, I love it, but it’s just hard for me to always commit to it. Because some nights, I get in there and 40′s beats, as melodic or R&B-driven as they may be, just have that right pocket that I just wanna spit.”
But Drizzy fans dont be alarmed, he plans to release two songs next month and he’s been working on his second album.
“I did this song the other night; I’ve now completed the second song for my album,” he revealed. “So I only had one song before for the new album; two nights ago, I did the second song. I’m loving it. I’m loving the sound. I’m excited again.”

Mood Muzik 4: Missez Turner's Review

I’m not going to lie; I slept on Joe Budden until around the time he did that cypher on the BET Hip Hop awards back in 09. Since then, I went and pulled his entire catalogue and honestly, I was upset that I was missing out for so long.

Mood Muzik 4 is the newest addition to Joe Budden’s Mood Muzik series, and it holds it weight just fine. From the Sean C & LV produced Intro track (Pray for Me), to tracks like the Parks Vallely produced role reversal, the tape brings a breath of fresh air into the Mood Muzik series. All of Slaughterhouse makes an appearance along with the likes of Styles P and Pusha T on the J. Cardim produced track, “Follow your Lead.” Fabolous and Lloyd Banks also join Budden and Royce Da 5”9’ on “Remember the Titans.”

The production of MM4 has stepped up from the previous efforts with the help of J. Cardim, Sean C & LV, Beewirks and Omen among others, but you can’t help but expect…just a little more to back Joe up.  I guess that’s just something to look forward to for Mood Muzik 5 (Fingers crossed).

Mood Muzik 4 isn’t necessarily something I would bump everyday in the whip, but I definitely appreciate good work when I see it. Along with the rest of the series, it’s timeless. With that being said I have absolutely no problem putting him in the category for my top 5 rappers of all time.

My Favorite Tracks:

            Intro (Pray For Me)
Role Reversal
Sober Up
Black Cloud
Stuck In the Moment

Stand out lines:

With every Joe Budden project, there always comes a ton of great quotables. I couldn’t list them all (and I REALLY wanted to), but I picked a few of my favorites:

5. Aftermath:
“I always manage to do better when there’s doubt shown, I'll teach you how to turn them diamonds into milestones”

4. Role Reversal:
Looking from the outside may seem like you neglect him
But when he slips up and calls me dad, I correct him
I protect him, when baby girl start venting about you I say “Respect him!”
And though it seems out of order, my own mistakes have turned me into your biggest supporter

3. 1000 Faces
What hurts more, the act of gettin cut off
or realizing that your two cents aint worth more

2. Intro (Pray for Me):
SN: Travis Barker and DJ AM were the sole survivors of a plane crash in 2008. DJ AM died in 2009 of an accidental drug overdose.

Reminded my past is darker
cause when A.M. died I was staring at Travis Barker
wishing it was something I could say to make him cheer up
and so I prayed – he teared up
I ain’t wanna see him go through that
the same shit that I feel, never showed you that

1. Inseparable:
At times you see people in ways you shouldn't portray them
cause they aint living up to a title you shouldn't of gave them

Putting Yall On: Sugar Tongue Slim

I first heard this guy freestyle on J. Cole’s “Bun B for President” and honestly, my first reaction was “Who the f*ck is this?" and "That HAS to be the gayest name ever," but before I form a solid opinion on any artist I have to pull their entire catalogue and marinate on it for a few days.

Needless to say, I was impressed. STS is an ex-pimp (no BS) from the A-T-L, and he sounds every bit of it. It would have been CRAZY to hear him on a track with Pimp C.

I fux with it.

Update on T.I.

*Kanye Shrug*

Here is the Article via http://www.nydailynews.com/:

Superstar rapper T.I. is facing serious jail time if a judge revokes his federal gun case probation next week because of a drug bust.
A probation officer is asking for eight to 14 months, though T.I.'s lawyers claim the guidelines call for no more than five to 11 months, say court documents filed Friday.
The recording artist and his new bride, Tameka Cottle, were pulled over Sept. 1 after his Maybach allegedly made an illegal U-turn on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles with "a strong odor of marijuana" wafting from the vehicle.
Officers found Ecstasy pills and arrested the couple on suspicion of felony drug possession.
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, also had codeine and marijuana and tested positive for opiates, his probation officer stated in a petition.
He's on three years supervised probation after a recent seven-month stretch in Arkansas federal prison for buying unregistered machine guns and silencers.
In the memorandum filed Friday, T.I.'s lawyer said the probation officer erred in asking for eight to 14 months because those are the guidelines for for violent career criminals.
The lawyers say that shouldn't apply to T.I. because his prior conviction for assaulting a Florida police detective does not qualify as a "violent felony."

Chris Brown - Deuces (Remix) (feat. Drake, Kanye West and Andre ...

I like to think of the "Original" Deuces Remix as the Deuces Cypher because even though it had a few hot verses, there was virtually no Chris Brown. The track was cut down by dropping T.I. and Fab's verses, keeping the crowd favorites (Drizzy, Kanye, and 3 Stacks). Chris Breezy's original first verse is there, but after the trending topic took over Twitter last week, I think he should've recorded a new verse.

Enjoy!

My Ode to Hip Hop

Wrote this back in highschool, and I lost ALL evidence of the original. I've been trying to recall the whole poem from memory since Friday, and after a drink or two, it finally hit me yesterday:

Is it strange that I call you my Hip Hop?
Strange was not my intention,
I’ve only witnessesd your transition
From that B-Boy stance on the party scene
To that “thug” on the block with that gangsta lean
And if I have to give it all away, I wouldn’t decline
Just you hear that bass line thump one more time

Hip Hop…

I’ve watched you extol the inspiration
To move generations
Of different faces and races
Closer to making Changes with strangers
That you could just

Connect

The way the needle connects with the vinyl,
The way my pen connect with paper
The way I connect with

You

I can’t help the fact
That I just want to lie back and be
Overwhelmed by your stroke
Of pure genius

I want to make the rearview shake
I want to make the seats vibrate
And if you let me,
I want to create a whole ‘nother melody with you

Getting lost in your synths
Up and down between proving claims
Of me scream your name
Though the forms have changed
You’re still one in the same

Just to wake up again
With my head on your chest
As we rest
Listening to your bass line thump
One
More
Time

Because

I am in love with the music
I am in love with Hip Hop
I am in love with You

New J. Cole: Relaxation

I am LOVING the direction that Hip Hop is going in. I heard this J. Cole song in the background of one of his Ustreams a few weeks back, and I knew I'd love it. The track features Fashawn (who we should all be on the lookout for) and Omen, who came hard on the track as well:

New Drake: I Get Lonely Too

Got a hold of Drake's new track this morning. He covered TLC's titletrack from "Fanmail," and of course, his engineer 40 added his little flair to it. Enjoy :-)
